Having a positive focused state of mind can take you a long way along your weight loss journey. If you are in the right state of mind, you will be able to tackle the challenges faced when losing weight more easily.
The issue is that cultivating a positive state of mind isn't always as easy as it sounds. Which is why I will give you my 5 top tips to help you achieve a positive mindset.
Tip 1 – Be Patient
If you have a lot of weight to lose it isn't going to fall off overnight no matter what you do to try and make it happen. Ever heard the old saying “Your weight didn't pile on overnight, so it's not going to come off overnight”? It's never been more true.
If you are realistic and patient about weight loss it will be easier to stick to your diet and weight loss plan. The average healthy diet will see you lose 2 lbs of fat per week. If you can accept this you can plan for the future, thinking it will only take a month to lose 8 pounds (just over half a stone). For some people this is enough to drop a dress size!
You'll only get impatient if you are unrealistic with your goals and expect weight to drop off too rapidly. Nobody is going to lose 7lbs in a week unless they starve themselves, and even then the weight that comes off isn't going to be pure fat, it's going to be muscle and fluids too. This just isn't sustainable.
Patience is a virtue.
Tip 2 – Focus on Small Wins
You could take your weight loss as one long term goal, to lose 30 lbs for example. Or you could focus on losing 7 lbs, and then another, and another until before you know it you have reached your long term goal anyway.
It is all too easy to fall off the diet wagon if you only focus on the long term, with catastrophic thinking creeping in if you cheat on your diet once. It could throw you off your whole journey! If you find yourself eating too many calories one day, the best thing to do is start again afresh the next day and put the lapse behind you.
Don't just celebrate smaller weight loss successes. How about if you've never been to the gym before and decide to sign up for an exercise class. You should feel proud of yourself for that. Celebrate small wins whenever you can. It's great for keeping your motivation levels topped up.
Tip 3 – Accept Setbacks
I'm not going to pretend that your weight loss journey is going to be straightforward or even easy. There are going to be times where you slip up by eating too much or not exercising. Some days you will step on those scales and for some unknown reason will have put on weight even though you stuck to your diet perfectly all week.
It is easy to beat yourself up when things like this happen, but a better way to deal with setbacks is to accept them and move on. Don' let setbacks have control over you and your weight loss. Overcome them and become stronger and more motivated to succeed.
Tip 4 – Meditate Daily
Most people find it difficult to meditate, maybe because of the connotations it has. I recommend it because it helps get rid of negative thoughts that can hold you back from losing weight. It's not going to make you deliriously happy, but it will put your mind in a settled, neutral state which puts you in the right frame of mind to face the day ahead.
YouTube has many quick meditation videos that you can view for free. I have included one below that was recommended to me by a family member. It is only 12 minutes long so can easily be squeezed in to even the busiest day.
Tip 5 – Sleep Well
Some scientists say we should all get 8 hours of sleep a night. Sometimes that just isn't possible, especially if you have a busy schedule. So aim for 6 hours at a very minimum. Sleep helps weight loss because it stimulates the release of growth hormone (a hormone that promotes fat burning).
You also get appetite suppression and energy boosting effects from proper sleep. Plus, when we are tired and grumpy, we are more likely to snack and make poor food choices. We will have less energy to do things like exercise, whether that be at home or at the gym.
Having a positive mindset is step one on the road to weight loss, but what about practical things you can do in order to boost your weight loss and help you stick to a plan?
I recommend adding a safe and effective diet pill to the mix of things you are already doing to lose weight. Diet + Exercise + The right diet pill = Weight loss success!
PhenQ is a supplement that is particularly great for giving an energy boost, which is ideal if you have vowed to work out at the gym or get out of the house to walk or jog, but struggle with motivation.
It is a type of diet pill known as a fat burner for it's ability to target fat cells and reduce your body fat. It has been around for years and has stood the test of time, and is sold by a trusted retailer.
I give you the full facts about this diet pill in my PhenQ review:
Hi, I'm Aileen, the owner of Diet Pill Judge. I have personally tried loads of diet pills over the years and found that only a few of them really work.
My background is in science, so I set out to find supplements that have scientific evidence behind them and which I can confidently recommend.
