The 3 Tin Diet and Charlotte Crosby’s Weight Loss

Charlotte Crosby from the UK TV show Geordie Shore has always been a curvaceous girl, until now! After following a diet she calls the “3 Tin Diet”, Charlotte admitted to Heat magazine that she was eating tinned food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day and had actually lost 2 and a half stone by following this wacky diet.

A typical day on the 3 Tin Diet3 tin diet review

This daily eating plan would include:

  • Breakfast: a tin of pears
  • Lunch: a tin of tuna (drained)
  • Dinner: A tin of baked beans

On this diet, Charlotte has allegedly dropped from a UK size 14 to a size 8, and it is easy to see why! This diet is a VLC (Very Low Calorie) diet and depending on what tins you choose to eat, doesn't contain enough nutrients to keep you healthy.

Even though Charlotte seems like a success story for this type of diet, time will tell whether she is able to maintain her weight loss, or whether she will gain the weight again when she starts eating normally.

*Update* – Charlotte has now credited slimming from a UK size 16 to a size 8 on eating sensibly and limiting “blowouts” to one a week. A much more sensible approach to weight loss in my eyes, and much easier to maintain.

Problems with sub-500 calorie or VLC diets

Going on a very low-calorie diet of under 500 calories a day can be pretty risky.

Eating under 500 calories a day on the 3 Tin Diet is certainly a quick way to lose weight but if you do follow this diet you may find your weight loss stops and you reach a plateau suddenly after a while. And that's the last thing you want to happen when trying to lose weight, especially if you have a lot of weight to lose.

This is because your metabolism slows down as your body goes into starvation mode because it isn't getting the calories and nutrients it needs in order to carry out everyday functions. This diet is not sustainable for the long term and in my opinion, it isn't a healthy approach to weight loss.

Here’s a rundown of the main dangers:

  1.  Nutrient Deficiency: Your body won’t get the vitamins and minerals it needs to function properly. This can lead to a host of problems like weak bones, hair loss, and a compromised immune system.
  2. Muscle Loss: Without enough calories, your body might eventually start breaking down your muscles for energy, which isn’t good news for your strength and metabolism.
  3. Slowed Metabolism: Eating so little can put your body into “starvation mode,” slowing down your metabolism as it tries to conserve energy. This makes it harder to lose weight in the long run.
  4. Energy Drain: You’ll likely feel tired, weak, and dizzy because your body isn’t getting enough fuel to keep up with daily activities.
  5. Heart Issues: Extremely low-calorie intake can cause your heart to weaken, leading to irregular heartbeats or even more serious heart problems.
  6. Gallstones: Rapid weight loss from such a restrictive diet can lead to the formation of gallstones, which are painful and might require surgery.
  7. Mental Health: Such a restrictive diet can affect your mood, making you irritable, anxious, or depressed.
  8. Hormonal Imbalances: This can mess with your hormones, potentially causing issues like irregular periods or fertility problems in women.

It’s always best to aim for a balanced approach to weight loss. Consulting a healthcare professional before making drastic changes to your diet is a good idea to ensure you're doing it safely.

Healthier alternatives to the 3 Tin Diet

There are healthier ways to lose weight quickly and easily than going on the 3 Tin Diet. If you cut down by 500 calories a day this will soon add up. If you add daily exercise, even a 20-minute walk, this could help you reach a 1-2 lbs a week weight loss goal.

If you aren't seeing results fast enough, then consider adding a safe and effective diet pill into the mix. Diet pills get a bad reputation because there are so many scams on the market, but I have made it my mission to weed out the scams and find the best diet pills that really work.

At the moment, you will see that our top-rated diet pill is called PhenQ. It is a fat-burning diet pill that works by revving up your metabolism and your body's fat-burning ability.  With an appetite suppressant effect, this helps you to cut down on the calories you get from food.

Using PhenQ is a sensible and effective approach to weight loss, unlike the 3-tin diet, and there are few to no reported side effects to using this pill.
